WICCAN WEB PAGE CREATOR EXPLORES DARKNESS, SPIRITUALITY AND MAGICK
BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA --- What is it about darkness that fascinates us? Some fear it while others seek it.
"The imagery of darkness awakens something within us that we cannot name," said John J. Coughlin (New York), a Wiccan practitioner for the past 16 years. During this time Coughlin has worked with several Wiccan communities ("groves" and "covens") although he most often prefers to walk a solitary, eclectic path.
Out of the Shadows: An Exploration of Dark Paganism and Magick, Coughlin’s recently released book (available from 1stBooks Library) actually presents two books in one. The first section explores the various aspects and images of darkness and how darkness relates to daily life and spirituality. The second section explores the underlying principles of magick to help practitioners understand the meaning behind the method.
Because Coughlin is also associated with the Gothic scene, he has incorporated his personal aesthetics and ideals into his spirituality giving him a unique perspective on Wicca and Paganism in general.
Also known by his Internet persona, Dark Wyccan, Coughlin is editor of the NYC Pagan Resource Guide. He has also created many other web-based services for both Pagans and Goths, which can be found at www.waningmoon.com. Some of these services include pagan and gothic personals, guidelines for gothic individuals who work in a corporate environment and guidelines for gothic nail care.
