Again, the social constructist speaks. I'm not going to make a fool of myself by trying to put a name to the quote (Darwin? Topinard, mabye?), but someone once said "Man is and remains an animal. Here a beast, there a housepet, but always an animal."
I, for one, am entirely sympathetic to this viewpoint, as unpopular as it is. The difference between morals and ethics can be argued ad in finitum, I know from experience, but at the end of the day the difference is semantic. They both seem to represent a code or set of behaviors which dictated that which is right and that which is wrong.
The absurdity of ascribing to any sort of morality whatsoever becomes apparent when one realizes that life infinitely dynamic. Every moral judgement we make is affected by manifold variables, so many that a defined set of answers for the moral riddles we face will invariably break down at some point. Anybody who has ever directly violated thier own moral code because, paridoxically, they were morally obligated to, knows this.
The closest thing to a code of morality I have found lies in truthful living. Learn how to listen to the truth of the moment, your moment, the moment which is right now and no being can experience save you, as you're the only one experiencing it through the filter of your awareness. Listen to that truth, and obey it.
Now comes the hard part. Setting aside the possibility that the truth you believe is a lie and going on the assumption that one is truly following in thier nature, than what of the man whose nature tells him to rape and mutilate children. I say, if that is truly what that person must do within the confines of thier subjective, truthful living, than that is what they should do. There will be another man whose nature demands that he punish the rapist, serve what he believes is justice, and thus the balance is maintained.
I politely request that I not be flamed for expressing this opinion, as has happened before.
