This is the exact thing that happens to me. I am trying to harden my nails using Sally Hansen Hard as Nails because my nails are paper thin. I also use horse hoof moisturizer and don't know if it works, but it isn't hurting. I had this really long nail and then poof it got nicked on the side and was a gonner...BOO HOO right along with you there!!!
