repairs

OK so i broke a nail today *sob* The first time in quite a few months so it was really long *sob* a split lenghtwise and slightly to the side. I've trimmed it quite short (4mm) but the split is still there, is there any way of keeping it like this without it breaking while i try to grow it out again?
