Barbara,

My finger nails are usually long and sturdy.
I let the perills of academic life pick
at every long sturdy nail I had.
My nails have been cleaned up and and now they
will not grow.

It took time for you to learn the habit of
picking and now it is going to take time
for you to "unlearn" the picking.

I think Mariposa is right about wearing gloves.
Try wearing them to bed with an extra duty
dose of hand and nail conditioning and
fortifying lotion!
I think you should try it. It also helps to
put on thick layers of nail strengthener
to keep from picking.
Pretend your nails are "wet paint"
keep you hands busy with something else
(Mariposa has a good suggestion here)

(Relax a little more often and get plenty of
exercise,ie; walking if you aren't already)
