Nail pain and question

I have pain right under where my nails separate from the nail bed. What could be the cause of this? It happens at random moments and i do not know why.
My other question is does the temperature of your hands effect your nails in any way? Mine are usually 10 degrees below average body temperature. Though, that may be the cause of the pain in my nails. I am just confused and would like some help on this matter.
