Born April 21st, 1959 in Blackpool, England, Robert James Smith was one of the founding members of The Cure and is the only member who has been there the whole time. He has been the lead singer on every song released by the band minus "foxy lady" from Three Imaginary Boys.

Robert has played many different instruments over time. He usually plays lead and six-string bass guitars, but has been known to get on the keyboards from time to time. Robert even has tackled the drum set at the finale of the Porn tour.

He met his wife, Mary, when he was 14 years old. They waited a long time, about 14 years, before they got married. Mary and Robert have chosen not to have any children.
