The Slimelight is almost certainly the most well known and longest running Gothic/Industrial club in the UK (and probably the world) and attracts customers from around the globe.

Slimelight takes place at the Electrowerkz, 7 Torrens Street, London, EC1 each Saturday, the nearest tube station being Angel on the Bank branch of the Northern Line, around 1 mins walk away. During the week the warehouse complex is used as a paintball and airsoft game site, but there are now club nights on most Fridays some of which feature Industrial/Alternative sounds from a variety of promoters.

The Slimelight is open every Saturday (except when it falls on Christmas eve or day) from 10 p.m. until 7.30 a.m. and is normally held on two floors. Regular 'three floor specials' add a purely Trad Goth floor to the EBM/Goth, and Industrial/Noise floors that happen weekly. Alcohol is available from 10 p.m. with 2 or 3 licensed bars open til 5.00am. On three floor nights the opening of the floors is staggered by the hour.

Pre-Slimelight gigs happen on a fairly regular basis where the ticket price usually includes free entry to the club afterwards, and often bands will play on the top floor during the night, entry to which is included in the admission price.

PRICES: Admission is £5 per member, and £8 per guest. Prices may rise for special events such as New Years Eve.
Soft drinks, snacks and hot drinks are available throughout the night.

HOW TO GET INSIDE THE CLUB

The Slimelight operates a members/dress-code policy. This means you can only obtain entrance if you are a member, or a guest, or dressed appropriately. Each member can bring in as many guests as they wish dependant upon suitable clothing or attitude. Don't worry, it's not at all hard to get in! Once inside you will pay either £5 (as a member) or £8 as a guest, though this can be more on special occassions such as New Years Eve. Members are regularly admitted free before midnight.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

To become a member pick up an application form, fill it in, get two members (or staff) to countersign the form, Take your form to the front desk. Hand in your form between 1.30 and 3.30 a.m, pay your membership fee (currently £10), and you can collect or be sent a membership card. Application forms are only available inside the club, advance memberships are not possible and application forms will not be sent out by post. Membership is renewable annually

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Membership is renewable annually and currently costs £3. If you come to the club just as your card is due to expire, you will pay an extra £3 on top of the normal members entrance fee, and your card will be renewed for you. If your card has expired (even if it is 2 or 3 years old!!) you can renew by just coming to the club, paying the members entrance fee and between £3 and £5 (depending how old the card is) on top, and again, your card will be renewed. You don't need to be signed in by anyone, just turn up, present your old card and renew! If you've lost your old card, you still should be able to renew as your details should be on the membership database, which we will look up on your arrival.

You can also renew your card by post if you wish. Please send a stamped SAE together with your card and a cheque or crossed postal order made payable to "SLIMELIGHT" for £3 Sterling. Foreign renewals should send an international money order for £3 payable to "SLIMELIGHT, with a self addressed envelope, and their membership card. All renewals should be sent to:- "Slimelight Renewals, Electrowerkz II, 7 Torrens Street, London, EC1V 1NQ, United Kingdom."

There are currently 2 pool-tables and cigarette machines along with the three bars. Work is in progress to create a totally new smoking area for when the 'anti-smoking' laws are introduced. Each floor has several toilets. The staff are happy to help the handicapped gain access to all floors two of which have toilets accessible to wheel-chair users.

There is a cloakroom costing £1.50 per item

Free water is available from the bar at all times and bottled water can also be purchased.

Trivia wise the building was originally a multi-storey 'horse-park' from the days when London Transport was horse powered, hence the unusual staircase configuration you'll see when you arrive. It was subsequently converted in to an electro-plating works from which the 'Electrowerkz' venue derives it's name. Many of the architectural anomalies are left-overs from this part of the buildings history. The name 'Slimelight' stems from the brief period when the club took place in a church, parodying the central London 'Limelight' club.

Innumerable music videos have been made on the premises over the 18 years that the club has been in it's current location from the likes of New Model Army and Iron Maiden along with documentaries on all things Gothic/Weird/Alternative. Most of the extras on movies such as Judge Dredd and Hackers were recruited from the regular clientele too.
