Back to late 1992 we recall what was the beggining of what would be called later one of the leaders of the
brazilian electronic/industrial movement.
Six young brazilians with one word in common: electro.
Being fans of early masters of the genre like Front
242, Nitzer Ebb and Skinny Puppy, the six friends were
on the verge of getting their heads moving towards the
direction of actually making music.
Funny enough to remember, the band first came out as
an imagery concept than properly as a band , because at
that time the six guys had nothing but a computer, a
scanner and lots of influences. Soon enough they got
their first toy keyboard(a Yamaha psr400) and a midi
device unit to connect the gear to the pc. Weekends
were spent learning how to operate and create music
with the new instruments. After 4 months of
experimenting and learning , the first 3 songs came
out as the demo tape "reacticide", which was recorded
during two days in a 4 track porta studio by the
formerly unknown producer apollo IX.
All the economies and efforts of the boys were spent
on that attempt of begining the whole band process and
its first landmark. Aghast View was born. Excited
enough, the boys sent the demo tape with 4 traxx to the
formerly owner of the now extinct electro label "Cri
Du Chat Disques", Eneas Neto, who loved the work and
aired the traxx in his radio program Zensor. He
announced : "I just know they are called Aghast View
and they come from Campinas/sp and their music is
great!" 4 Months later Aghast View returned to São
Paulo to record 5 more traxx that would be their first
ever released demo tape "burnt beyond recognition",
released by c.d.c.
With a vacation trip to USA and spending all their
savings, the youngsters brought professional equipment
(sampler)-ensoniq asr 10, 2 -megabytes to Brazil and a
new horizon was about to be explored in the band´s
existence. 2 members left the band for personal
problems and AV reached its formation with 4 guys.
In 1994 during the first semester, Aghast View recorded
their first full lenght cd "Nitrovisceral" that in
november was released by cri du chat and licensed for
production in Germany to subtronic records(which sadly
enough never paid the band the royalties)
The album received great response of the specialized
media and fans appeared everywhere. Tracks like "Burst
in Crossfire" and "Chemical Warfare" became hit-songs
in several clubs and radio programs all over the world.
Urging for the demand for more of their music the (now
infamous) Aghasterrorists recorded a limited edition
epcd "chemicalstorm" containing remixxes and 2
unreleased traxx and stroke europe again with this ebm
follow-up. Because of the constant and increasing
demand for "Nitrovisceral" the cd had to be re-edited
and released again in Brazil with a new pressing which
came with different artwork and a bonus track
"collision course part 3."
Aghast View started working in its own home studio(the
shelter) , controlling better the whole procedures of
production. Worxx with other bands and remixxing jobs
appeared as Aghast View was invited to remixx the Swamp
Terrorists from Switzerland and :Wumpscut: , from
Germany. Several compilations were now featuring
Aghast View´s traxx and the band was gaining respect
worldwide with interviews and reviews in many important
magazines as Vertigo, Crewzine, Culture Shock.
In 1996 the side project Biopsy was created by two
Aghast View members to release a work very much
influenced by the likes of Swamp Terrorists. Biopsy
released two cd albums which were very much appreciated
by the electro fans.
Aghast View released a new maxi cd , "Vapor eyes" in the
beggining of 97,with 14 traxx (9 new + chemicalstorm),
having as a highlight a remixx done by :Wumpscut:. It was
the last c.d.c. disc.
Further on , Aghast View continued its remixxing skills
to develop versions for tracks from other bands such
as : In Strict Confidence, Manhole Vortex, Diverje...
Now, in 98 a new album entitled "Carcinopest" is about to
be released on the american label edt records and the
remixxing exchange continues with Neuroactive, :w:, isc,
Negative Format, Pain konsept and looking forward to
others. Aghast View is now present in the scene with a
solid image and several releases and plans to continue
"distorting the vision" of electroheads worldwide...
