Submission Guidelines and Procedures

In order to maintain some integrity to the information presented in this project, the following guidelines have been established:

GENERAL GUIDELINES

This is not a dictionary so, when possible, articles should not be one-line definitions. I'm looking for content and quality here. However since I want to index abbreviations (such as SOM = Sisters of Mercy) that is the exception.

Submissions should be your own work. Should you find something that you did not write but want included here, you must obtain the author's permission or better yet, encourage the author to visit this site and make the submission.

CATEGORY GUIDELINES

Bands

I want to be fair and list more than just the larger groups like The Cure and Sisters of Mercy, but at the same time I can't cater to every schmoe that threw together a band in their garage, so here are the guidelines for band submissions:

  • Must have played in more than one venue on more than one occasion.
  • Must have at least one album out.
  • Must have existed under the same name for more than a year.
Band info should include background information, etc.

People

This category is for anyone who is well known in the gothic scene. Besides popular band members such as Peter Murphy, this can include authors/artists/etc and of course "community leaders" of the gothic scene. In order to avoid this becoming an ego play, these are the guidelines for this category:

Band members: Well known members of groups that are internationally known in the scene that have more than one album out and have been with the group for more than a year. Articles must include some background.

Personalities: Must be well known in the gothic scene, "famous" promoters, popular webmasters (like "Dark Side of the Net" - not just a home page) that have been around for a few years, founders of internationally known events like Convergence and Whitby.

Other: Includes other artists, authors, etc that are popular in the scene such as Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Edward Gorey.

Places

This category lists Places that a Goth would want to visit because it is known to the scene, such as famous clubs, locations of gatherings (like Whitby), etc. Popular hangouts for local scenes are also welcome if they are well known for that area.

Events

This area is reserved for events that meet on a regular basis. Not club nights, but large events that people from other cities travel to, such as Convergence and Whitby. This is not a calendar!

Terminology and Sayings

Terms and phrases with special meaning to Goths, such as, Goth Talk, Spooky Kids, Geri-Goth, "Goth as Fuck" and "Nice Boots… Wanna Fuck?" Ideally these should be universal, but popular local sayings may also be welcome if presented well.

Included also in this category would be popular drinks and drugs like snake bite, absinthe, and crystal meth... things you hear in the scene.

Local Scene

This category would probably be used with other categories to define something that is specific to a local scene such as New York City or Boston. Each local scene has its own style and culture so this will help categorize these attributes. However, I don't want certain scenes dominating this project over others so how this category will be used will depend on the nature of the submissions. This is open to scenes world-wide.

Miscellaneous

For items of interest to the Gothic scene that do not fit any other category.

New categories may develop as needed, so suggestions are welcome.
